Life News and other media report: Zhang Zhehan Documents His Cycling Journey in Tibet, Wins Two International Awards

The singer-songwriter Zhang Zhehan, who recently won both the “Most Popular Newcomer Award” at the 2024 Hito Pop Music Awards and the title of “Top 100 Artists of the Year” by the KKBOX Music Awards, released a brand-new English single titled 90s today (October 5). This track, infused with retro electronic dance elements, creates an auditory time machine. Zhang expressed, “I want to invite my fans to join me on a free and romantic journey through time!”

Simultaneously, his winning streak continues. Zhang’s documentary August, which he personally directed, also brought double surprises by winning the “Global Award” at the ARFF International Film Festival in Amsterdam and the “Best Script Award” at the 2024 Red Movie Awards (Summer Edition). Overjoyed and surprised by the news, Zhang shared how honored he feels. Through August, Zhang authentically documents his cycling journey through Tibet, combining it with heartfelt narration, making it an emotional and compelling film.

Riding the wave of his immense popularity, Zhang Zhehan has released a new English single, 90s. The retro electronic dance beat of the song immediately sets a unique tone, different from his previous works. The inspiration behind the song came from reflections on the passage of time. Zhang emotionally shared, “Growth is a one-way street; the past years cannot be reversed or relived. Only beautiful music can preserve each moment, allowing listeners to experience the joy brought by the creator.”

During the early stages of producing the song, Zhang Zhehan was not entirely satisfied with his first recording. He initially thought that fast-paced songs would be easier to manage compared to slower ones, as they might not amplify vocal details as much. However, when the time came to record, he found the challenges to be much greater than anticipated. The most important task was figuring out how to blend the song’s atmosphere and rhythm with his voice. After a period of reflection and contemplation, he poured his heart into the project, ultimately infusing his understanding and expression into the interpretation, which allowed him to complete his new work, 90s.

Furthermore, returning to the central theme of “time,” Zhang has evolved from an actor to a singer-songwriter and, this year, has embraced the role of director, using the lens to tell stories. Each moment has gradually contributed to his growth, enabling fans who appreciate Zhang Zhehan to see more diverse aspects of himself.

Having traveled through time and explored many places, Zhang Zhehan has achieved remarkable success over the years. His documentary August won the “Best Script Award” at the Red Movie Awards (Summer 2024) and the “Global Award” at the ARFF International Film Festival in Amsterdam, providing him with immense encouragement.

August chronicles Zhang’s self-healing journey following a sudden online storm in August 2021 that upended his acting career. When the stage lights dimmed and his life was shattered by false information and malicious distortions online, Zhang chose to embark on a new journey toward the real world in August two years later, in a way he loves. Cycling from Shangri-La to Lhasa, he encountered snow-capped mountains and glaciers, grasslands, cattle, and sheep, as well as many ordinary yet touching faces. He listened to the voices of nature, the stories of strangers, and the pains and love within his heart.

Zhang Zhehan graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s performance department. With his abundant talent, he wears multiple hats as a singer-songwriter, actor, and director, making him a versatile artist. Over the past two years, Zhang has traveled across Asia to celebrate with many overseas fans, holding personal concerts in Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. This Lunar New Year, he even performed in Hong Kong at the Primordial Theater concert, celebrating the new year with 15,000 fans! His schedule has been packed and fulfilling. Recently, he announced that he will bring the Primordial Theater 2.0 tour to Korea on November 16, where he will meet even more overseas fans.
