CTWANT and Other Media Reports: Zhang Zhehan Releases New English Single, Wins Award in His Directorial Debut

Fresh off winning the “Most Popular Newcomer Award” at the 2024 Hito Pop Music Awards and being named one of the “Top 100 Artists of the Year” by KKBOX, Zhang’s latest release reflects on the passage of time. He expressed his sentimental thoughts on growing up, noting that “growth is a one-way street, and past years cannot be reversed or relived. Only through beautiful music can we preserve each moment, allowing listeners to experience the joy brought by the creator.

Zhang Zhehan released his brand-new English single “90s” today (October 5).

During the early stages of producing the song, Zhang wasn’t entirely satisfied with his initial recording. He originally thought that fast-paced songs would be easier to manage since they wouldn’t highlight vocal details as much as slower songs. However, once the recording process began, Zhang realized that blending the song’s atmosphere and rhythm with his voice was far more challenging than expected. After much reflection, he dedicated himself to immersing fully into the work, finally injecting his own understanding and expression into the performance, resulting in the completion of the new track “90s.”

Moreover, Zhang Zhehan, who transitioned from an actor to a singer-songwriter, also became a director this year, capable of telling stories through the lens. His documentary “August”, which he personally directed, won the “Best Screenplay Award” at the Red Movie Awards (Summer 2024) and the “Global Award” at the ARFF International Film Festival in Amsterdam. The news left Zhang both surprised and proud, and he expressed how honored he felt by the recognition!

The film chronicles his self-healing journey following the online storm that abruptly overturned his acting career in August 2021. Two years later, in August, Zhang decided to authentically capture his experience biking through Tibet, from Shangri-La to Lhasa. Along the way, he encountered snow-capped mountains, glaciers, grasslands, cattle, and sheep, as well as many ordinary yet moving faces. The documentary August beautifully weaves these encounters with Zhang’s narration, making it deeply touching. Since its release on YouTube in April this year, the film has garnered nearly 7 million views!
