Entertainment News: Zhang Zhehan Celebrates 34th Birthday at Hong Kong Concert — Rekindles His Passion for Acting Through Artistic Creation

Zhang Zhehan celebrates his 34th birthday with “Jellyfish” (Haizhe) fans at his concert in Hong Kong!

Zhang Zhehan’s brand-new themed concert Scavenger returned to Hong Kong on May 10, this time set in an open-air venue. Featuring a 50-meter-long extended catwalk, carefully crafted stage direction, and a more diverse range of visual elements, the performance immersed the audience in a stunning, light-and-shadow-filled interstellar fantasy. A matrix of lights created beams of energy that crisscrossed to form a cosmic landscape, offering a fully immersive experience of wandering through an unknown planet.

The stage design followed the storyline of an “interstellar scavenger,” brought to life through three interconnected VCR segments. The concert opened with a scene of a spacecraft landing on an alien world. Zhang Zhehan appeared wearing a long, patchwork robe in a distressed, post-apocalyptic style. The tattered, worn fabric conveyed a sense of ruin and erosion. As he lay at the center of the stage, the repeated call—“Can you hear me?”—echoed like a lone voice reaching out to mysterious beings in an unfamiliar land.

In the second chapter of the concert, Zhang Zhehan appeared in a custom-designed outfit created specially for the show. The costume featured gradient-colored crystal particles produced using PolyJet 3D-printing technology. Under the stage lights, the outfit shimmered with a prismatic glow, as if guiding the audience on a voyage through an unknown planet.

As the lighting shifted, the show transitioned into its rock segment. Zhang donned a metallic purple-silver robe paired with custom sunglasses, delivering an electrifying performance that lit up the stage with raw energy.

After the explosive number Datura, Zhang took off the robe, revealing a black mesh tank top layered with chainmail-inspired armor—sending the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and screams.

In the concert’s fourth chapter, the mood softened. Zhang returned to the stage in a soft pink suit and slowly walked along the extended runway. A matching satin ribbon draped from the collar of his jacket fluttered gently in the evening breeze. As he serenaded the audience with Lost Glacier and Moonlight, a shared, dreamlike memory was etched in time—just for him and his fans.

Fully Involved in Artistic Creation — A Return to the Set

Zhang Zhehan was deeply involved in the artistic direction of this new themed concert Scavenger—from selecting the central concept to overseeing the mid-show VCR filming. Throughout the production process, he took an active role, reviewing every shot and line of dialogue in the script ahead of time and frequently communicating with the film crew over the phone to fine-tune the details.

While shooting in a desert setting, Zhang repeatedly performed a fall scene in the sand as large fans whipped up strong winds. After each take, he would sit down on a nearby chair to empty his boots, which were filled with sand. Dust clung to his face and even got into his mouth, but instead of complaining, he laughed and said, “It felt like rediscovering the long-lost feeling of being on a film set again.”

From a visual standpoint, Zhang Zhehan also contributed creative input. During early discussions, the directing team had proposed a static image of a wolf’s head as the background effect for the song Primordial Theater. However, Zhang suggested adding motion to the wolf to enhance the audiovisual impact of the performance.

At the climax of the song, just as he sang the final line—“Please clap and cheer, for you, me, and for all.”—Zhang proposed an even bolder idea: “What if, right after I sing the last line, the wolf in the background suddenly opens its mouth, bares its jagged fangs, and looks like it’s about to devour me?”

Initially, the team found the idea quite daring and unconventional, but after several rounds of rehearsals and adjustments, it won over the crew. In the end, the animated wolf effect became a standout moment—adding the perfect final touch to the performance and leaving a lasting impression.

Celebrating His Birthday with Fans Once Again

The concert took place on the eve of Zhang Zhehan’s birthday. Surrounded by warm wishes and an impromptu singalong from fans in the audience, he made a wish in front of a birthday cake on stage.

With genuine emotion, he shared, “Time really flies. I still remember this day in 2023—it was my first concert in Thailand, and I celebrated an unforgettable birthday with all of you.”

After completing the final track WU for his album Scavenger, Zhang Zhehan has now released one full-length album per year over the past three years, forming a musical trilogy that traces his evolution from Deep Blue, to Datura, to Scavenger. His style has gradually shifted from lyrical storytelling to a more eclectic and genre-blending approach, incorporating elements of electronic and rock music.

Looking ahead, Zhang expressed his commitment to continuing his exploration of creative boundaries. Grounded in personal reflection and inspired by the natural world, he hopes to keep pushing the limits of artistic expression and uncover new possibilities in music.
