Embracing His Diverse Sides, Zhang Zhehan Lives a Vibrant and Rich Life

Known as “Lin Shu” in “Nirvana in Fire” and “Zhou Zishu” in “Word of Honor,” Zhang Zhehan has now returned to the public eye, bringing a series of musical works.

Last Saturday, Chinese actor Zhang Zhehan attended the “YES 933 HitFest Music Festival” in Singapore, where he won “Artiste of the Year,” and his song “Magnificent Life” earned “Hit of the Year.” As a singer, his brilliance remains undimmed.

Importance of Awards

Before the festival, Zhang Zhehan spoke about his view on awards in an interview with “8 World Entertainment Lifestyle.” He mentioned a book he read recently, “Man’s Search for Meaning,” where a professor, when asked about his success, replied, “I just try to live life to the fullest, and success is just something that comes from living life to the fullest.”

Zhang Zhehan, with a shy smile, talked about the three trophies at home: “Many years ago, I received a ‘Most Popular Actor’ award. It marked a milestone in my life, showing that I was doing well, a recognition of my efforts.”

“Interestingly, I have three trophies at home, one for golf ‘hole-in-one,’ another for basketball, and possibly a singing award soon. Looking back, these will remind me of the richness of my life…”

Embracing Different Sides of Oneself

Unexpectedly, his trip to Singapore brought not just the “Artiste of the Year” but also the “Hit of the Year” award. He performed songs like “Datura,” “Magnificent Life,” and “Time to Leave,” earning cheers and support from countless fans.

Zhang Zhehan said that on stage, he can be passionate or tender, reflecting the different aspects of his personality through various music styles. “With life experience, you’ll find both pure and dark sides in yourself. Life gives you these aspects, and you need to accept them.”

Expressing Through Creation

For Zhang, creation is how he expresses his diverse sides: “Music expresses a range of emotions, personal ones. Acting involves delving into a character’s emotions within a given framework. But singing is more about oneself, a performance, an expression. You can sing out and write out your unhappiness.”

Aspiring Beyond Acting

Zhang Zhehan candidly admitted that he’s happiest in music: “I love cycling too. I have a spinning bike at home and sing while cycling, which is when I’m happiest.”

Will he return to acting?

“Of course!”

But he aspires to more than just being an actor. “I was too busy before, jumping from one project to another. I’d join midway, do my part, and leave. Whether the final product was good or popular didn’t concern me much…”

Now, setting aside fame and fortune, Zhang Zhehan can more purely pursue his interests. His directorial debut, a one-hour documentary about his cycling experience in Tibet, is set for release after the Lunar New Year 2024.

“I’m involved in production, scriptwriting, and directing. It’s truly my own creation.” He laughed helplessly, “Editing is a pain, so tedious. Watching 10 hours of footage every day… But there’s joy in overcoming challenges and gaining new insights.”

In Singapore, Zhang Zhehan also held his first overseas fan meeting, interacting closely with 1,500 fans and playing games. When asked about his next destination, he said, “Korea, Australia, the Middle East… I want to go further.”
