The notes pulse like a heartbeat in the song’s expression, stirring emotional waves. The lyrics describe the pain and helplessness of a person after losing a profound relationship, and how escaping and hiding cannot alleviate the inner pain. The lingering feelings narrate the emotional entanglements, weaving a narrative of loss and longing.

Lost in Ocean
In his performance, Zhang Zhehan attempts an all-English ballad for the first time. The singer’s voice conveys delicate emotions, evoking regrets that seem to have been smoothed over by time but have never disappeared.

The singer chose the Chinese title “了” for the song.
When “了” is pronounced “liǎo,” it means “end” or “completion.” Just like the English title “Going Off,” when we realize that a story or relationship has reached its end, we must continue forward; letting go is the conclusion.
When “了” is pronounced “le,” it often serves as a modal particle. Sometimes it acts like a period, indicating an understanding of everything, and sometimes like a comma, indicating “understood” after being informed. It signifies the realization that one has to part ways with various emotions or stories to achieve self-consent.
“Liǎo” and “le” represent the contrast and coexistence of active and passive relationships. This song also asks an open-ended question: “Do you understand?” “Understood.”
