Zhang Zhehan Transforms into an Interstellar Traveler — Celebrates His 34th Birthday with a Brand-New Concert Tour

Zhang Zhehan recently launched his brand-new concert tour Scavenger in Hong Kong. Coinciding with the eve of his birthday, he made a heartfelt wish in front of a birthday cake as fans in the audience spontaneously offered blessings and sang together. Now 34, he said emotionally, “Time flies. I can still remember this day in 2023 — it was my first concert in Thailand, and we spent an unforgettable birthday together.”

Last year, Zhang shone brightly with his album Datura, and his self-directed documentary August won the ARFF International Film Festival Global Award in the Amsterdam category — a victory he called “the best birthday gift.”

The 2025 Scavenger concert is themed around “interstellar scavenging.” Through a three-part video narrative, the show begins with the landing of a spaceship on an unknown planet. Zhang appears as an interstellar traveler in a patchwork wasteland-style robe, calling out “Can you hear me?” — evoking a live concert version of The Three-Body Problem, as he questions unknown lifeforms in a strange new world.

Scavenger features an open-air, immersive design, with a massive extended stage over 50 meters long. Coupled with carefully choreographed staging and a wide variety of performance formats, the show pulls each audience member into a dreamlike galaxy of light and sound. A matrix of lighting effects creates “energy beams” woven into a cloud-like cosmic field, offering fans an immersive experience of roaming through an alien world.

As the concert entered its second act, Zhang Zhehan appeared in a specially designed outfit made with PolyJet 3D printing technology, which produced gradient crystal particles that shimmered with dazzling colors under the refracted stage lights. He led the audience on a surreal journey across an unknown planet.

As the lighting shifted, the concert transitioned into a rock chapter. Zhang emerged in a purple-silver metallic robe, paired with custom designer sunglasses, delivering a high-energy heavy metal-style performance. After performing his signature track Datura, he dramatically removed the robe, revealing a black mesh see-through tank top paired with armor-inspired chains — triggering a wave of screams from the audience.

The concept and visual production for the new tour were entirely driven by Zhang himself. He personally oversaw every aspect of the visual shoot, reviewing every shot and line in the script, and frequently communicated with the production team to fine-tune the details by phone. During scenes shot in a desert setting, Zhang repeatedly threw himself onto the sand under powerful fans simulating windstorms. After each take, sand poured out of his boots, and his face and mouth were filled with grit — but he never once complained. Instead, he joked with fans afterward: “It felt like rediscovering the thrill of filming again.”
